Wikiup Hilltop

covered outdoor bar
  • Location: Santa Rosa

This project in Santa Rosa was completed over many phases, starting with the removal of a wall to wall concrete entry below a large stucco retaining wall. The wall was left but was softened with plant material, with trailing Rubus spilling over the top, and succulents and grasses added below. A planted, hog-wire screen was added to provide privacy in the added paver patio and BBQ area off of the kitchen. A terraced vegetable garden, with views across a wooded valley, was then added next to the existing deck in the back, protected from the deer by a redwood and hog-wire fence. Taking complete advantage of the morning sun, the owner was so prolific that the garden was later expanded further down the hill.

Circulation around the property was improved, with gravel pathways with redwood steps added on both sides of the house. In the final phase, a composite deck was added below an existing deck, creating an inviting space for a covered outdoor bar and a fully shaded fern garden. As an added touch to make the mundane elegant, a garbage enclosure features copper sheeting with redwood battens.

This project was featured in an online article from Turf Magazine.
